Frequently Asked Questions and Answers
How should I dress for the initiation ceremony?
This is a formal celebration, and the officers and faculty presenters will be wearing academic regalia. We do realize that you are first and foremost students and that you will be coming from class. Please wear what you will feel most comfortable wearing.
What if I cannot attend the ceremony?
You are strongly encouraged to attend the initiation ceremony, but if you are unable to attend, you can still become a member. Follow the instructions on your invitation. After the initiation ceremony, you can pick up your certificate and pin in HONORS 205, Monday through Friday, 8:00 – 4:30. For more information, please contact the MTSU chapter coordinator, Wendi Watts at wendi.watts@mtsu.edu or call 615-904-8431.
Can I bring more than one guest to the ceremony?
Yes, please invite your family members as well as faculty members. Encourage your guests to stay after the ceremony for light refreshments.
My class doesn’t get out until 5pm, can I still attend the ceremony?
Yes. If you inform the chapter coordinator ahead of time, she will see that the officers are informed of your late arrival. For more information, please contact the MTSU chapter coordinator, Wendi Watts at wendi.watts@mtsu.edu or call 615-904-8431.
Are there Phi Kappa Phi honors cords, stoles, and medallions available for graduation?
Yes. Cords and medallions can be purchased for $15 each and the stole is $25. They can be purchased prior to and after the initiation ceremony or in HONORS 205, 8:00 – 4:30, Monday through Friday. Cash or check only, as the chapter is not set-up to accept cards. We encourage you to wear the recognition items on the day of your graduation. Visit the Honors Graduation Regalia page to learn more.
What is the length of the initiation ceremony and if I need to attend class, can I leave early?
The actual ceremony lasts about 1 hour. We will work around your class schedule, though. If you inform the chapter coordinator of your schedule, she will let the officers know to present your certificate first. For more information, please contact Wendi Watts at wendi.watts@mtsu.edu or call 615-904-8431.
